At the Ohio State University, students make sacrifices every day to succeed in the classroom and beyond. However, it is important to remember those students who have made the enormous sacrifice of putting their academic career on hold to serve in the United States military.

Mayhew, who had a strong passion for trees and a dream of graduating from Ohio State, was killed in action on June 13, 1945, in the Battle of Okinawa.
