    Back by popular demand, Bill Shkurti gives us a glimpse into what life was like at Ohio State 50 years ago! 1968 proved to be among the most contentious years of the 20th century, particularly on U.S. college campuses. This Buckeye Smart session will describe what fall quarter felt like at the time for some Ohio State students including Bill Shkurti, a graduating senior that year who later served as the university's vice president for business and finance. His talk will also explore how those events helped shape what the university is today and what challenges may lie ahead.

    Wouter Stellaard, Animal Programs Training Director at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, will talk about zoo animal behavior and training.  This event is hosted by the undergraduate student arm of CHAIRE, the Human-Animal Interactions Club.  More information available here.

A sought-after speaker whose TED Talk received a standing ovation, President Robinson has moved audiences around the world with her passionate and hopeful call for all nations to work together to fight for a sustainable future.

    This workshop features the what, why, and how of plant grafting and includes hands-on practice. Rootstocks and scions are provided, and participants can take home their grafted plants. Registration: $35 for members of Friends of Secrest Arboretum; $45 for nonmembers. Preregistration required.

    Even in the fast-moving 21st century, animals, and the industries built around them, heavily affect our daily lives as well as our economy. The Columbus Metropolitan Club will tackle this discussion from all angles: animals as servants, pets, and food sources.

    One dollar from the sale of each ticket will be donated to CFAES’s Stone Laboratory to support student scholarships.  Experts from Ohio State’s Ohio Sea Grant program will be at the event Jan. 19-21 to share information and host children’s activities.

    Ohio Maple Days is an educational event for syrup producers set for three dates in three locations: Jan. 17 in Fulton, Jan. 18 in Fredericksburg, and Jan. 19 in Middlefield. The program will be the same at all three locations.
